We Are Strictly “White Hat”

blog_whitehat“White Hat” is a term applied to SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It means that the optimization techniques follow the quality guidelines set forth by major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. There is also “black hat SEO,” which involves going over to the dark side and practicing illicit techniques, i.e. trickery, in order to boost a site’s ranking in search.

Over the past couple of years, Google has rolled out updates to its search algorithms which detect and penalize websites that are using banned techniques. Google has gotten better and better at detecting trickery. A penalized website may be removed entirely from Google.

My position on SEO has always been that it is a process, not a one-shot dose of tricks. It requires creating good quality content over the long term, and then optimizing this content to be found by a target audience. There are no magic bullet short-cuts, at least not any that will be sustainable.

And, at Blue Kite, we would never do anything to get a client’s website penalized.

We are strictly white hat SEO and we promise to continue to strictly adhere to ethical practices.
